Babi Badalov

Les explorations trans‑linguistiques de Babi Badalov l’amènent à développer des projets qui tentent de désamorcer les barrières créées par le langage, si nous nous laissons intimider par ce dernier. Il passe en effet allègrement d’une langue à l’autre, d’un alphabet à l’autre, en manipulant et jouant avec les mots d’une façon qui est autant sonore que visuelle et plastique. Pour Bye‑Bye His‑Story, chapter 5050, sa contribution prend la forme du tote bag de l’exposition, sur base d’un dessin produit pour le M HKA pendant la période d’immobilité forcée et de crise sanitaire que nous connaissons. Des masques d’une efficacité tout aussi redoutable sont produits pour l’exposition.

Babi Badalov was born in Lerik, a small Azeri town near the border with Iran in the Talesh region of Azerbaijan, to an Azeri father and mother from the Iranian-speaking Talesh minority. Babi Badalov’s trans-linguistic explorations lead him to develop projects that attempt to defuse the barriers created by language if we allow ourselves to be intimidated by it. Indeed, he blithely switches from one language to another, from one alphabet to another, manipulating and playing with words in a way that is as much audible as visual and plastic. For Bye-Bye His-Story, chapter 5050, his contribution takes the form of the tote bag for the exhibition, based on a drawing produced for M HKA during the period of forced immobility and the health crisis we are experiencing. Equally effective masks have also been produced for the exhibition.
