Lucia Bru

Lucia Bru sculpte, dans une acception large du terme. Au‑delà de l’objet ou de l’installation sculpturale, elle insuffle vie et corps à l’espace, l’architecture et, par là‑même, au vide, à l’air, à l’immatériel. Dans la concrétisation délicate et discrète des formes, dans leur intégration subtile et suspensive à l’architecture ainsi que dans l’idée d’instantanéité suggérée par un équilibre comme précaire, fugitif, voire instable, il y a dans son travail comme une forme de résistance, de force dialectique, qui retient l’attention.
 
Les œuvres à support graphiques/photographiques de Lucia Bru participent de ces lignes de tension qui en font des objets et images discrètes mais d’autant plus interpellantes, résilientes. Les prints photographiques de la série Limites (2012) que nous présentons ici fixent des vues plongeantes d’architectures éphémères. Construits par l’artiste et constituées de boîtes de cartons formant par leur assemblage une sorte de paysage cartographié de cloisonnements fragiles, ils suggèrent, de façon métaphorique et indirecte, la subjectivité de tous ces cloisonnements de nos espaces physiques et mentaux mis en œuvre par ce que nous appelons l’histoire, la culture, la civilisation, inéluctablement voués à l’éphémère et au changement. Simultanément, ils évoquent également la précarité de la situation actuelle, qui peut tous nous affecter.

Lucia Bru sculpts, in a broad sense of the word. Beyond the sculptural object or the installation, she breathes life and body into space, architecture and, by the same token, into the void, the air, the immaterial. Clean, concentrated, her work resists and captivates. The gesture is precise, delicate, simple, as are the shapes she creates and the materials she prefers in general. In the delicate and discreet concretization of forms, in their subtle and suspensive integration into architecture as well as in the idea of instantaneity suggested by a seemingly precarious, fleeting, even unstable balance, there is in her work a form of resistance, a dialectical force, which commands attention. The switch between interstitial moments of occultation and visibility also confers a very particular relief to her video and photographic work, an undoubtedly lesser-known part of her search. Lucia Bru’s graphic/photographic works play on these lines of tension that make them discrete objects and images yet all the more challenging and resilient.

The photographic prints from the Limites (2012) series that we present here capture bird’s-eye views of ephemeral architectures. Built by the artist and made up of cardboard boxes forming by their assembly a kind of mapped landscape of fragile partitions, they suggest, in a metaphorical and indirect way, the subjectivity of all these partitions of our physical and mental spaces implemented by what we call history, culture, civilization, inevitably doomed to the ephemeral and to change. They similarly convey an idea of precariousness, in line with the present situation a lot of our citizens are currently experiencing.
