Shuzo Azuchi Gulliver

L’œuvre de Shuzo Azuchi dit Gulliver, l’un des exposants les plus importants du courant Fluxus japonais trouve l’un de ses axes directeurs dans l’utilisation de son propre corps, dans la diffusion expansionniste médiatisée et organisée de sa matière corporelle, de son énergie vitale et de son patrimoine génétique dans l’espace qu’il partage avec le spectateur.

Ami de Beuys, mais aussi de On Kawara, et toujours dans une perspective de projection de sa propre immortalité, il a réalisé des toiles imprimées, inspirées des Date Paintings de ce dernier, explicitant la date de son 100^e anniversaire, le 24 août 2047.

Le tableau additionnel que nous présentons ici s’inscrit dans cette logique en l’exacerbant, non sans humour : il porte en effet la date du 1000^e anniversaire de l’artiste, le 24 août 2947, date à laquelle nous sommes tous conviés, moyennant le carton d’invitation que vous pouvez emporter, au vernissage de son exposition au Temple Ishiyama-Dara à Tokyo, en présence du Dalaï Lama… Le rendez-vous est pris.

The work of Shuzo Azuchi, known as Gulliver, one of the most important exponents of the Japanese Fluxus movement, finds one of its major axes in the use of his own body, in the mediated and organized expansionist diffusion of his bodily matter, of its vital energy and its DNA in the space it shares with the viewer. 

A friend of Beuys, but also of On Kawara, and always with a view to projecting his own immortality, he produced printed canvases, inspired by the latter’s Date Paintings, specifying the dates of future birthdays, on August 24th.

The paintings that we present here form part of this logic by exacerbating it, not without humour: one bears the date of the artist’s 100th birthday, August 24, 2047, while a second one that of his 1000th birth anniversary, a date to which we are all invited, by means of the invitation card that you can take to the opening of his exhibition at the Ishiyama-Dara Temple in Tokyo, in the presence of the Dalai Lama… Save the date.
