L’oeuvre protéiforme d’Eleni Kamma explore la migration des formes, des symboles, des systèmes de représentation, de narration et de classification des éléments culturels et naturels d’un champ culturel à l’autre, d’une aire culturelle ou d’une époque à l’autre. Pour l’artiste, les discontinuités et les contradictions des systèmes de représentation et de narration révèlent les problématiques des notions d’authenticité, de mémoire et d’identité dans leur essence de concepts et de phénomènes culturels construits et toujours in the making.

C’est ainsi qu’elle s’intéresse de façon récurrente à la fois aux actualisations contemporaines du concept grec de parrhesia, de prise de parole franche candide et directe dans l’espace public comme aux détournements et aux manipulations de cette dernière. C’est en ce sens que le projet que nous vous présentons trouve toute sa pertinence.

Dans ce contexte, Eleni Kamma a en effet commissionné à plusieurs auteurs l’écriture d’une situation fictionnelle se situant entre canular et interpellation politique. Nous présentons ici les props et le texte à performer d’un texte écrit par Margot Van Linde The Romantic Activist, s’inspirant d’un personnage caricatural The Angry (le fâché) que Kamma lui avait proposé. La pancarte et les podiums sont prêts, le texte de Van Linde se dévoile dans ses premières phrases et nous aimerions vous inviter à assister à cette performance surprise qui se déroulera dans l’espace public louviérois lors du WE de finissage de l’exposition.

Eleni Kamma’s protean work explores the migration of shapes, symbols, systems of representation, narration and classification of cultural and natural elements from one cultural field to another, from one cultural area or from one era to another. These areas of investigation place particular emphasis on the significance of the interstice and the semantic gap. For the artist, the discontinuities and contradictions of the systems of representation and narration reveal the problems inherent to the notions of authenticity, memory and identity as concepts and cultural phenomena that are constructed and constantly in the making.

Thus, she is recurrently interested both in contemporary updates of the Greek concept of parrhesia, of free and direct speech in the public space, and in its diversions and manipulations. It is in this sense that the project that we present to you assumes its full relevance.

In the present context, Eleni Kamma commissioned a number of authors to write a fictional situation that hovers somewhere between a hoax and a political question round. Here, we present the props and the performance text of a text written by Margot Van Linde, The Romantic Activist, inspired by a cartoonish character, The Angry, that Kamma proposed to her. The sign and the podiums are ready, the text by Van Linde is revealed in its first sentences and we would like to invite you to attend this surprise performance which will take place in the public space of La Louvière at the finissage of the exhibition.
