Exhibitions
Le Centre de la Gravure et de l'Image imprimée organises up to seven exhibitions a year, covering three key fields of activity:
-
Discovering Contemporary Graphic Art: The Museum holds solo exhibitions of engravings and prints by internationally acclaimed artists, which present a global overview of their work, and show how their engravings tie in with other aspects of their art. « Alechinsky, 50 ans d’imprimerie », « José Maria Sicilia - En flor », « James Brown - Impressions 1986-2001 », … Besides these international figures, the Centre de la Gravure also showcases the work of engravers who are less well known. It organises collective exhibitions which present the work of young artists, around the theme of a specific technique, such as « Les Matricielles » (January 1997).
-
Cultural Heritage: The Centre de la Gravure is a beautifully designed exhibition space, which regularly hosts thematic, technical, and occasionally historical exhibitions. Recent exhibitions include « La Lithographie 1797-1997 » (September 1997), « Un siècle de Collage en Belgique » (September 1998), « Les Images d’Epinal » (September 1999), « Les Affiches chinoises 1921-2001 » (January 2003), …
-
Displaying the Collection: Several times a year, the Centre de la Gravure holds thematic exhibitions of works from the collection. Its exceptional archive of graphic art makes La Louvière a major centre for engraving, not only in Belgium, but around the world.
